Tip for this race
All today's tips ›Tactical Blitz is our selection for this 7f Newcastle all-weather contest, and his progressive profile earns him the nod over Educating Rita, who is rated just a pound better on our figures. He sits in the top two of a 14-runner field that lacks depth, with a gap of five pounds back to the next-best, Newsreader, so the front pair look the ones to beat. Educating Rita is the obvious danger, with Newsreader and Yaajooz also needing respect if the pace and draw fall kindly for them. Tactical Blitz looks the one to be with, as the horse on an upward curve.

Bobby Joe Leg is yet to win in his last six, with a third and a second five and six starts back now well behind him, and a 183-day absence and a yard out of form (1/24) hold him back. He has run over today's trip and going, and our rating of 68 sits just above his official 65.

Jesmond Dawn is a midfield type who has run over today's trip and going and won five starts back, but he has finished sixth in his last two and has been beaten since, so a 38-day break needs to help. Our rating of 67 sits a couple of pounds above his official 65, with 137 lb from draw 10.

Newsreader is rated 71 by us, third-best of 14, and has run over today's trip and going before, while a 24-day break suggests he's fresh enough. The risk is a winless sequence of finishes no better than fourth, with his yard also out of form at 2/37.

Sole Spirit has slipped to back-to-back sevenths after winning three and five starts back, so the current trend is the worry, and he carries 135 lb from stall 14. He has run over today's trip and going, and 24 days off is fine, but our figures rank him 12th of 14.

Tactical Blitz gets the nod on profile: he has run over today's trip and on the going, comes here fresh after 26 days, and won six starts back with a third five starts back. Three eighths in his last four are the concern, but our figures rank him second of 14.

Milford Grange is winless in his last six, though a third three starts back shows he can pick up a cheque, and he has run over today's trip. Back in just seven days after an unplaced effort, he carries 134 lb from draw four.

Without a win in her last six starts, Dolo's Star is hard to fancy after finishing unplaced last time, 33 days ago, and she's a third two starts back, a second four starts back at best. She has run over this trip and on this going, but carries 133 lb from stall 11, and our rating of 56 ranks her last of 14.

Second last time out and a winner three starts back, he's been consistent and has run over today's trip and going, but our rating has him 11th of 14 and a speed figure of 57 hints he's short of the pace here, so he's hard to fancy carrying 133 lb from stall seven.

Blufferonthebus bounces between the frame and the pack, with a second two starts back and a third four starts back, but she was only ninth last time out and is yet to win in her last six starts. She has run over today's trip and going, and our rating of 67 sits above her official 61, though she carries 133 lb from stall 12.

Rousham finished third last time out and is fresh enough after 19 days, having run over today's trip and going before, but he has only one win in his last six, and that came six starts back. Carrying 132 lb from draw 1, he looks a midfield sort, with our rating of 69 ranking him fifth of 14.

Winless in his last six, Maximum Velocity was unplaced last time out after a sixth and a fifth before that, so he is hard to fancy, though he has run over today's trip and going and was second four starts back. Returning after 45 days from draw 13 with 132 lb, he is ranked 13 of 14 on our figures.

Gressington is consistent but winless in his last six, with a fourth last time out and a fifth two starts back, and he has run over today's trip and on this going. Fresh enough after 19 days, he carries 130 lb from stall 8, and our rating of 68 sits well above his official 58, yet he keeps finding a few too good.
