All today's tips ›Charging Thunder No. 1, stall 5
Christian Howarth · James Owen
✓ Top rated ✓ Course winner ✓ Trainer in form (13/56, 14 days)
Charging Thunder looks the one to beat in this Chelmsford staying contest, with our rating of 94 putting him a significant seven pounds clear of Brosna Town and well ahead of the remainder, and that gap should tell over the 14 furlongs on the all-weather. Brosna Town, on 87, is the chief danger and the only rival who really gets close on our figures, while Gemmari and Lady Ridgewood, rated 79 and 78, would need to improve to make it a contest. Mother Dear and Big Bear Hug look to have plenty to find at this level. Charging Thunder is the selection.

Charging Thunder arrives in rising form, second last time out and third the run before, and he's back quickly after just seven days with experience of today's trip and going. Our 94 rating makes him the one to beat, though he's yet to win in his last six and carries 142 lb.

Lady Ridgewood won last time out after a modest run of finishes before that, and she has run on today's going before, so she arrives a real threat. The risk is the 140 lb burden and a 39-day break, which may blunt her edge.

Fresh enough after 15 days and with experience of today's trip and going, Brosna Town carries 138 lb off an official mark of 76, and our rating of 87 ranks him second of six; the risk is a recent form line showing three unplaced runs in his last five and a third four starts back.

Gemmari arrives fresh from a second last time out, 26 days ago, and has run over today's trip and going before, while our rating of 79 ranks him third of six. The risk is consistency, with an eighth two starts back and just the one win in his last six.

Big Bear Hug is hard to fancy, having finished seventh last time out and no better than a fifth in her last five outings, with her one win six starts back now a distant memory. She has run over today's trip and going, and our figures still rank her last of six.

Mother Dear won last time out and also four starts back, but a sixth and a fifth in between show she is inconsistent, and she is rated only fifth of six on our figures. A 39-day break and 130 lb are further hurdles, though the latest success is a genuine positive.
