Tip for this race
All today's tips ›Distillate heads our ratings at 62 in a wide-open 14-runner Class 6 over a mile on the Southwell all-weather, and that narrow edge is enough to make this one our selection. Distillate is two pounds ahead of Captive Beauty and Book of Life, who both sit on 60 and look the principal dangers, while Archangel Josepi is only three pounds behind and cannot be discounted. With so little between the leading contenders, a field this big may produce a messy contest, but Distillate has the best figure and gets the vote. Distillate is the selection.

Distillate arrives in cracking nick, having won two starts back and three starts back before a third last time out, and she has run over today's trip and on this going before. Quick back-out after two days is a small query, but our rating of 62 makes her the one to beat from draw 10.

Age of Time is yet to win in his last six, though a third six starts back and a couple of fifths show he can hold a midfield spot; he has run over today's trip and going, but he's coming back quickly after seven days from a stable struggling at 1/40.

Archangel Josepi has been in the frame three times in his last six, including a second three starts back, and he has run over today's trip and on the going before, while our rating of 59 ranks him fourth of 14. The main risk is a fifth last time out and a seventh before that, leaving him yet to win in that spell.

Captive Beauty arrives in solid nick after a second last time out, and she has run over today's trip and going before, while our rating of 60 ranks her second of 14. The one concern is that she is yet to win in her last six starts, and she carries 132 lb from stall 11.

Mercurius Power has finished fourth in each of his last two, and a second four starts back shows he can go close, yet he's winless in recent starts and sits only sixth of 14 on our rating of 58. He has run over today's trip and going, returns after 21 days, and carries 131 lb from stall four.

Dumfries is consistent without winning, third last time out and a second three starts back, and he's only seven days since that run with experience of today's trip and going. Against that, he's yet to score in his last six, a ninth two starts back sits in the mix, and the yard is cold at 1/21.

Joud has been in the frame in two of her last five, including a second two starts back, and she has run over today's trip and going before, but she was only sixth last time and is yet to win in that spell. Our rating of 57 sits seventh of 14, so she looks a midfield sort from stall 14.

Secret Road is winless in his last six, finishing seventh last time out and no better than seventh in that stretch, so he's hard to fancy. He has run over today's trip and going, and a fortnight's break keeps him fit, but 130 lb from stall nine is a stiff ask.

Oxford Circus is winless in his last six, though a fifth last time out and a fourth two starts back hint at slight improvement, and he has run over today's trip and going before. Carrying 129 lb from stall 1, he is hard to fancy on our figures, which rank him 13th of 14.
